Professor Edward T. Chang published this "Pachappa Camp: America's First Koreatown" in Korean in October, 2018. The book explores the stories of Korean American immigrant families at Pachappa Camp, the exile of Dosan during 1924 and 1926, Korean churches and schools, and ect. Overall, this book tells the readers stories about Dosan Ahn Chang Ho's arrival at Riverside after moving from San Francisco after 1904.
Dosan Ahn Chang Ho established Pachappa Camp in 1905 in hopes of gathering all Korean American immigrant workers into one place. In the beginning, about 50 Korean Americans lived at the camp while working at citrus orchards in Riverside, California. As an early leader of Korean American immigrant community, Dosan led the people in Pachappa camp into forming associations like Heung Sa Dan and Sin-Min hoe.
The photo of a sign on the front cover of the book indicates the Pachappa camp as City of Riverside's first point of cultural interest. In December of 2017, "City of Riverside's #1 Point of Cultural Interest" sign was placed at the site of the Pachappa camp that Dosan Ahn Chang Ho established back in 1905.
